What You'll Need to Take the Course:
This course is recommended for beginner level and beyond knowledge with Adobe Illustrator - I'll be doing a quick review of the specific tools I'm using in this course, but won't be going in depth on the program as a whole.

  • Adobe Illustrator Desktop App - Required
  • Your course resources folder (it's in the sidebar of Lesson 3!)
  • iPad + Apple Pencil and Adobe Illustrator iPad App - Recommended but not required
While using the iPad is an integral part of my own workflow, you can skip the iPad lessons (Lessons 3, 3.1 and 3.2) if you don't have one and still complete this course! You'll learn many tips + tricks for speeding up your workflow on the desktop app.

Meet Your Teacher

Sarah Renee is an artist and licensed surface pattern designer based in Texas, with a love of combining traditional mediums like gouache and watercolor with digital artwork. A long-time crafter and cutting machine enthusiast, Sarah discovered a passion for designing and selling SVG files. She loves seeing her artwork and patterns on anything from fabric and wallpaper to laser-made products. Sarah has developed a love for teaching and helping others grow their creative businesses by sharing design techniques, all things digital organization, and small business tips.

1. Do I need prior experience with Adobe Illustrator?This class is good for someone with beginner level experience with Adobe Illustrator. I'll be reviewing each tool we'll be using and how to use it, just in case it's new to you. Already know all of the basics? Just skip the tool overview lessons to get straight to designing!
2. Can I use an iPad?Yes! I’ll show you how to design on both platforms so you can choose what works best for you.
3. Can I sell the designs I create in this course?Absolutely! You’re free to sell the files you create using the techniques taught here.
4. How long do I have access to the course for?You'll get access to the course for the lifetime of the course!
5. Is there any support offered for the course?While the course is entirely pre-recorded (so that you get access to all content immediately) I'm here to help with any trouble you run into! Send me an email with any questions :)
5. Does this course cover how to design patterns?My original plan for this course was to include how to design patterned laser files, but it was going to make the course realllly long. We all have shorter attention spans nowadays, so I decided to split the course up: a course on my workflow for designing scoring motifs + files and a course on how to take those motifs and design a patterned laser file. Make sure to join my Designer Diaries email list to be updated with when the Pattern Design for Laser Files course is in the works!
6. How long is the course?The course content videos adds up to a little over 1 hour + a few text based lessons! You won't need to complete it all in one sitting, and you'll be able to mark lessons as complete as your go through to track your progress and see where you left off.
